Motion Control Photography
My experience with motion control started in the early eighties. After having acquired a Marron Carrel 1600 35 mm optical printer, the next logical step at the time, was to create a three axis motion control system which would hookup to and support the optical printer with motion control.
Today I am still using the 12 field 3 axis stepper motion control system. I use G code to program the 3 axis and have added 3 more steppers to control my dichroic color head (Yellow/Magenta/Cyan) with values ranging from 0 - 220 for each color.
My current work using motion control tries to combine graphic shapes with altered speed rates to sculpt light and color into abstract shapes. Coding movements and color also allows greater control to my abstract photography.
The examples below offer a cross section of the different aspects of motion control. I use motion control with analog and digital cameras. I create analog transparency film patterns which I then use in my digital images using analog composite masks with color transparencies.
